Frequently Asked Questions

You can file for renewal within 12 months before the expiration date. There is also a 6-month grace period after expiry, but a late fee applies. After the grace period, the trademark is permanently cancelled and you must re-file a new application.

No. CNIPA does not send any renewal reminders. It is the trademark owner's sole responsibility to track renewal deadlines. Our Managed Renewal Plan provides triple reminders at 12, 6, and 3 months before expiry.

The official CNIPA renewal fee is RMB 450 per class (electronic filing). Our service fee is $399 per mark for single renewal. Portfolio and managed plans are available at discounted rates.

You need: (1) a signed Power of Attorney, (2) a copy of the original registration certificate, (3) a copy of the applicant's business license, and (4) the current list of goods/services. We prepare all other documents.

No. The renewal application must cover the same goods/services as the original registration. You cannot add new classes during renewal. To expand coverage, you must file a separate new trademark application.

Once the 6-month grace period expires, your trademark rights are permanently lost in China. You must file a completely new trademark application. There is no restoration process. This is why we strongly recommend our Managed Renewal Plan.

Never Miss a Renewal Deadline

Once a China trademark expires, there is no grace period for restoration. Renew on time or lose it forever.
