Overview #
A Chinese trademark registration is valid for 10 years from the registration date. To keep it in force, you must file a renewal application with CNIPA within the renewal window. Missing the deadline can mean losing your rights.
Renewal Deadlines #
- Normal window: within 12 months before the expiry date.
- Grace period: a further 6 months after expiry, at a higher official fee.
If you miss both windows, the registration is cancelled, and you would need to file a new application — losing your original priority date.
Renewal Fees #

Renewal fees are charged per class, so a multi-class registration renews at a multiple of the per-class fee.

- Confirm the expiry date and the classes to be renewed.
- File the renewal application (usually through your Chinese agent).
- Pay the official fee.
- CNIPA issues a renewal certificate confirming the new 10-year term.

- Review the specification — renew only the classes you still use, and consider filing new classes if your business has expanded.
